One of my favorite accidental philosophers is the Cheshire Cat from Lewis Carroll’s famous Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. He drops hints of wisdom for Alice as she becomes more and more harried by her adventures. At one point, she asks the cat for directions, saying she doesn’t care where she goes, as long as she goes somewhere. “You’re sure to do that,” he replies, “if only you walk long enough.”
And so it goes with us humans when we set out to improve ourselves. We fall into the rabbit hole of distractions or get caught up in the emotional traps of our situation. We forget where we’re going, but know we’re going somewhere. We’re sure to do that if only we walk long enough…
